something amazing

Went to feed fish this morning and what do I find. Down the dark end there are the two blue shebunkins added ain July AND the tiddliest sweetest little gold fish. It cannot have been more than and inch or so.

The interesting thing is that the three of them were just hanging out together behind the roll of chicken write as if it were their own territory. They looked so small.

Burt I ma wondering just when I added this fish?

The previous additions were made in July – the two blue spelunking and the goldfish. The goldfish swiftly integrated into the left hand side but the shebunkins disappeared for weeks. For some reason I did not keep a record of the previous additions….there HAVE been two this season.

But to disappear for so long only to now pop their reads up!

So small too.

It MUST be an addition…surely not a pond born.

But the amazing thing is that there is this little gang of fishing just handing out in the Dark End on heir own

All fish accounted for

The new comet has been coming up for breakfast for a few weeks now. And this evening I spotted the other two blue ones.

No losses this summer although I have spotted two cats just sitting there staring back at me.

Fish all doing well

Fish all doing well.

The new pump filter is a fantastic boon as I do not have to keep cleaning the bloody thing out. The pump keeps setting bunged up though.

Water barrel tadpoles are thriving!

Sad thing is though my mum’s pond is utterly fucked. About a month ago it was all working wlel…loads of spawn – wlel that is where i get mine from – and the somehow the whole pond went black.

Anyway I said I would clean it out and took it all the way down to the bottom. The black smell of the stagnant water is still in my nostrils! However, we counted 14 massive frogs all choking in the black stagnant mess….And a newt!

There was a little frog spawn and I carefully laid this to one side while I cleaned out the pond but a week or so later the pond is green and there is no spawn. Nothing so sad as a dead pond.

and tadpoles too

stolen from mother's pond...in the water barrel...and in the froggery. A few eeks ago I was fiddling with the pond and pulled out one of the grass boxes...a little frog about 2-3 inc hes jumped out. So there ARE frogs in the garden. Really hoped that we would get some spawn but no.

looking forward to a good summer.

have invested £100 in a new UV pond filter....wouldnt it be gerat to get some tiddlers?

the dark end is looking quite overgrown now so if the fish DID breed there are plenty of places for them to hide.

we will see. think the pond too shallow for breeding.

roll call 23 March 2009

seem to have lost one of the shebunkins and the orange with the black stripe....the two two newbies I added never really saw again.

1 x white comet with red spots 5-6
1 x red and black goldfish – 5-6

2 x blue orfe 10 inches
1 orfe – 10 -11 inch

I large ghost koi – 12 13 inch and 2-3 round the girth

I lovee this fish. fact.

1 x orfes - stil quite slim. About 5 inches

2 x silver koi 7-8 inches - looking strong...still swimming round in a pair

long hard winter

It's been tough in the pond this winter.

the fish experienced their very first ever freeze over...really..you could stand on it!

The netting i place over to safeguard the fish from the bastard ginger cat was all frozen into the water. you could just about see the two blue orfes hanging there./

Saw no sight of the big koi for weeks. I had genuinely thought the cat had got him and then a week ago,...he swam by.

Phew.

Don't know how many will make it this winter.
